Excursion trips in Spindleruv Mlyn


About 15 km from Špindlerův Mlýn, you can shop for Krkonoše pottery, lace and other handicraft products in the picturesque square. On the way from Špindlerův Mlýn to Vrchlabí you can visit a private brewery. Vrchlabí offers numerous hiking and cycling opportunities, as well as several interesting heritage sites. The 16th century Renaissance chateau, the arcaded burgher gable houses and the early eighteenth century Augustinian monastery are certainly noteworthy. Housed in the monastery and three historical buildings on Náměstí Miru, the Krkonoše Museum exhibitions present a number of historical and scientific collections. The Beer Festivals held on Náměstí T. G.Masaryka on the first Saturday of August are now visited by a large number of regulars. Vrchlabí is also an ideal place for supermarket shopping (at Lidl, Billa and Penny Market) before you go back to Špindlerův Mlýn.


About 150 km from Špindlerův Mlýn, some 100 km of which is on the motorway or expressway, Prague, the crossroads of European culture is a world famous heritage conservation site protected by UNESCO. All the famous sights such as Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square can be seen in about four hours before you return to the mountains.  

Dvůr Králové Zoo

The Dvůr Králové Zoo is about 30 km from Špindlerův Mlýn. It is the largest breeder of African animals in Europe and one of the most beautiful zoos in the world. It is the only one in the Czech Republic to offer daily and evening African safaris from May till the end of September, with visitors riding through in specially modified safari buses or in their own cars among the free-roaming animals.

Prachovské skály

This is a sandstone rock town in the protected landscape area of Český Ráj (the Bohemian Paradise). Prachovské skály are located just a few kilometres north-west of Jičín and about 50 km from Špindlerův Mlýn. You can walk around Prachovské skály taking either the short route which is 1.5 km long (about 45 minutes at a gentle pace) or the long route which is 5 km long (about 2 hours  at a gentle pace). 


One of the best preserved castles with a rhomboid tower, built in the 14th century. The Renaissance kitchens, historical weapons, romantic Plakánek Valley and the 300-year-old Semtínská linden tree are all to be seen.

Kuks State Chateau

This former spa complex from the early 18th century, established by Count F. A. Špork, is located about 55 km from Špindlerův Mlýn. The hospital and original pharmacy (the second oldest in Europe) have been preserved, along with the church containing the Špork family tomb. Two  rows of Baroque statues by Matyáš Braun, allegorical Virtue and Vice statues, are quite unique. Since 2009 the Kuks complex has been undergoing extensive renovation.

  • Poniklá a picturesque mountain village (25 km away), famous not only for its old herbwoman ponikelská bába kořenářka from Krkonoše fairy tales, but also for the charming Christmas decorations hand-made from glazed pearls. www.rautis.cz
  • Janské Lázně a spa (30 km away), with mineral and thermal springs, a spa colonnade and a cabin car to Černá hora (1299 mm).
  • Bozkovské caves the only Dolomite caves in Bohemia, a visit to which is made even more wonderful by the underground lakes of clear blue-green water.
  • Kozákov (30 km away) a lookout tower and a site for precious stones.


An industrial and historical town some 50 km from Špindlerův Mlýn. The most prominent landmarks include Krakonoš Square with its neo-Gothic town hall, the Krakonoš drinking fountain, the arcaded burgher houses and the Holy Trinity column, while the chief landmark in the town is the Baroque Church of the Nativity of our Lady
